Our Caring Corner

Our Caring Corner Mission Statement
Improve the lives of grieving children, adolescents, and their families by
providing support, education, and community outreach in a world where grief
knows no social, economic, racial, or other boundaries.
The program is staffed by professionals who recruit and train appropriate
volunteers to facilitate the work done in groups of children, adolescents and
adults. Our staff is professionally trained in grief support, group facilitation
and adult training methods. Volunteers have been recruited from all walks of
life. Those who are motivated by the desire to give back to their communities
and to make a difference, especially with children, are invited to inquire.
Volunteering requires no special training or background. Our Caring Corner
volunteers are trained by staff members to acquire the skills to fulfill the
role they choose.
Our Caring Corner was officially unveiled during the fall of 2008. Please check
this web site for updates to the program.
Our Caring Corner Vision Statement
We envision a community of support for grieving children, adolescents, and their families.
Grieving Families
Our Caring Corner is a safe place where grieving
children, adolescents, and their families come together and talk about their
memories in an atmosphere of acceptance. We are a peer support program made
possible through the funding provided by Highmark Healthy High 5,
an initiative of the Highmark Foundation.

validation of feelings and encouragement to group attendees. Sessions are held
one evening each week and offered free of charge.
