Farm to School

Welcome to our Farm to School Program, a dynamic collaboration funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. It's not just a program; it's a celebration of how we grow, learn, and nourish our community.

In our Farm to School Program, the journey is just as enriching as the destination. Here, our youth are not just students; they're explorers of the land and champions of health. They take part in a transformative experience of learning how to grow, prepare, cook, and share local food products. The heart of this experience lies not only in the bountiful harvest but also in the shared moments of growth and connection.

Key Features:

  • Funded by the PA Dept. of Agriculture: Our program receives invaluable support from the Pennsylvania Farm to School Grant Program. This partnership enriches our offerings and enables us to extend the benefits of this program to a wider audience.

  • Bridging the Gap: Our program has a noble mission - to bridge the gap between our children and the food system. We strive to connect them with fresh, healthy foods provided by  Pennsylvania agricultural producers in our community and its surroundings.

  • Empowering Through Education: We're not just changing the way food is purchased; we're transforming how food is understood. Our program empowers children to become more aware, engaged, and informed about their local food system. It also equips them to use their consumer influence to support Pennsylvania agriculture, fostering a sense of civic responsibility.

  • Mrs. Nancy's Kitchen: Each year, our Kitchen Manager, Mrs. Nancy Reed, works with youth in our programs to learn how to prepare, cook and serve healthy snacks and easy meals.

Why Farm to School Programs Matter:

  1. Healthy Habits: By introducing children to fresh, local, and nutritious foods, we are instilling lifelong healthy eating habits. Our program addresses the root of good nutrition, helping prevent health issues down the road.

  2. Local Economy Support: Farm to School Programs bolster local agriculture, strengthening our community's economic resilience. As we support local farmers, we build a sustainable food network that benefits all.

  3. Education Beyond the Classroom: These programs offer a holistic educational experience. They teach students where their food comes from, encourage environmental stewardship, and nurture an appreciation for the hard work of local farmers.

  4. Community Bonding: Farm to School Programs engage our community in a shared mission. Families, schools, and local farmers come together to create a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.

Together, we are sowing the seeds of a healthier, more connected community. It's not just about food; it's about the love and care we share with one another.
