Join us on Wednesday, June 19th, for an all-day celebration of Juneteenth - a day to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States and to honor African American heritage. From 10am to 6pm, Story Square will come alive with a rich tapestry of activities, performances, and experiences designed to educate, inspire, and celebrate.
Activities & Highlights
Live Entertainment & Performances: DJ Sean Nice will be the MC of the event, alongside a vibrant showcase of African American artists across genres.
EEUCC Youth Choir: Be moved by the voices of our future, as the 4th and 5th grade youth from EEUCC preform with the guidance of the Mon Valley Arts Association.
Youth Awards Ceremony: Recognizing the brilliant minds of tomorrow through essays, poetry, and speeches that echo the themes of Juneteenth.
Keynote Speeches: Listen to influential African American leaders, activists, and scholars discuss vital topics like racial equality, economic empowerment, and community development.
Soul Food Cook-off: Taste the heart and soul of our community as members compete in making the best soul food dishes, with a vision crafted by our committee chair, Terry Vassar.
50/50 Raffle: Try your luck at our 50/50 raffle, a fun addition to the day's festivities.
Diverse Cuisine: Enjoy an array of food vendors offering dishes that represent African American, Caribbean, and Southern traditions, among others.
African American Traveling Museum: Explore artifacts, documents, and stories at the traveling museum, curated by Dr. Norma Thomas, highlighting the rich history and heritage of African Americans in Fayette County.
Marketplace & Community Resources: Visit a vibrant marketplace featuring small businesses, arts and crafts, and community resource vendors.
Family-Friendly Fun: Games, face painting, crafts, inflatables, and more - ensuring a joyous day for the youngest members of our community.
